Project list just growing?!

I'd love to say I have painted that console table since last posting...

I bought paint.  And a sprayer.
And it's still not painted.

Going with that Tabriz Teal for the console.  The truer emerald greens, although pretty all over the internet, in person I just couldn't do it.  This has just enough blue in it I think.

I got a couple brass handles for the drawers, from Etsy, thinking I'd buff them up all super shiny and whatnot, but after I got them I realized the brass is just too thin.  If I put them on the buffer all the design will be lost for sure.  I may still attempt to hand polish... but that's really, really low on the list.

And because I don't have enough unfinished projects, I got these cuties -

One will be above teal and the other will be that Liberty blue with metallic gold in the grooves and the insides of the legs.

I usually use Behr paint, but I haven't been feeling super great lately and the Sherwin Williams store is evidently 1.5mi away.  So Sherwin Williams it is!
Kid was great, accepted my coupon and gave it back for me to reuse.  He also said they always have some coupon running and if I don't have one with me, they'll find one for me.

I think I'm going to try out my sprayer on these littles first before I destroy that Hooker console.  And they'll be heading in the shop.

Saw these babies on CircaWho

so naturally I want to paint my bedroom dressers in that Liberty color.
Higher on the list than the handles, but not by much.

I found 20 brass chargers, some from India, some from Denmark, but same size overall.
Thought they'd be awesome in time for the holidays, add some sparkle to a tablescape. But they have been a total bitch to polish.  And while I did manage to polish the top sides, the bottoms now look worse comparatively.
But seriously, if you invite someone over for a nice fancy sit down dinner and they start picking up your chargers and looking underneath them they should not be invited back!

That justification didn't really work on me either, so I'm slowly getting through the undersides.

Also acquired this pair:

Thayer Coggin Milo Baughman bitches.
And they hug me when I sit in them.
They're very low and pretty narrow seating allowance, but OMG.

That peachy-pink velvety fabric is actually in pretty damn fine condition less a little surface dirt in a couple areas.

I am super torn with this pair.  If I sell, it's a nice chunk toward my bike fund.  If I price them like they do on 1st dibs, I could buy the damn bike immediately.
But I won't, promise!

Yes, I have a bike fund, doesn't everyone?
We got rid of our streetbikes when we moved to Florida, and the Ruckus is fun, but I miss having a bike.

Those club chairs really are spectacular...  guess we'll see.

I heard it snowed in Jersey yesterday...this was a couple weeks ago here:

In full disclosure, it wasn't really hot.  I mean I had my bathing suit on, but underneath my clothes and they didn't come off.
And it's like 50 degrees today, and my hot water isn't working. (hour 3 of waiting past the scheduled repair guy arrival time)
See?  Balance.

Hoping all your projects are moving along faster than mine and you're enjoying Fall or Early Winter with great boots, scarves and some cashmere! Speaking of cashmere - sidenote: ew which I'm wearing today and recently discovered it's goat hair?
Anyone confirm or deny this?!

Really Ikea? Really?!

I am fully aware that often when something is marked down, there's a specific reason.
A lot of times it's damage of some sort.  But a lot of the time at Ikea, it's usually due to the item having been a display.

It's a trade off, and you just need to discern if it's a blemish you can live with or not.
Simple, right?

Well how about when you spot the awesome item with a corresponding awesome price tag and you're just so damn excited you don't look over the item for that "reason" as well as you should.

Actually this happens to me quite a bit.  I'm one of those people who talks, jumps, moves, acts before thinking kind of people.  Slowing down could benefit me greatly.

So while at Ikea for the 2nd time in a week, I was perusing the AS IS section and saw these 2 great navy and white rugs.  I immediately thought they'd be perfect on either side of my bed.  I noticed one of the tags...

SWEET!  They were floor models, but on a platform which means very little foot traffic.  And the white looked crisp, not dingy at all.
And c'mon, you can't beat that price.  In fairness, even at the original price of $20 it's a steal.

So I get home, rip off all the tags, and lay them out next to the bed to see if they'll work.

And don't you know there is a 10inch tall, green sharpie writing that says AS IS
across the damn rug?!
Not on the tag. Not on the seam. Not on any hems.

That's jacked up Ikea person who did this.  Just crappy.

Although it's not really showing up in the photo very well, I can assure you that you can see it in person clear across the room.

Thankfully these are reversible, but kinda liked that idea so I could flip them to keep them fresh longer.

I just noticed in posting the link to the rugs that they list them as black, not Navy like I'm convinced they are.  So you can call them what you want, but I'm calling them Navy.

Ikea is one of those stores that I love everything one season and hate everything the next.
But I also think it's like Target, it's just a necessity sometimes.

Those PAX shelves are saving my ass in my office!
I am still struggling with the mirrored doors, in that I'm not sure if it's just too much or not.
Once I have them all situated and you can see the floor of my office/workspace again I'll post photos.  But be kind, because there's no way I'm swapping those doors out anytime soon dolls!

I was rearranging them yesterday to allow for additional shelving, and I had left a couple of the doors open.
Can I just say that it scared the living crap out of me no less than 3 times!
I kept walking into the room, seeing a person and freaking out.

Yes, the person was me.  And yes I did do it several times before shutting the doors before opting to not having a full on heart attack.

Have you seen the latest Ikea catalog with that super awesome green velvet couch?

I am sure you have, it's been mentioned in just about every blog I read.
And now this one too, although probably much later than the others...

I have never been a fan of green, but I'm so loving on this couch.
Isn't Emerald Green the "Pantone Color of the Year"?
Matt doesn't care for it one bit, so it's not going to ever live in my home, but man it's really pretty fantastic.

Um, yeah, don't think I missed the fact that the rugs were written on with the very same green as I'm about to discuss.  Weird?

So since I've acknowledged my living room is pretty bland and doesn't have nearly enough color, I'm thinking our tv console table in this color?

Super glossy lacquered, of course.

Similar to these couple,

This navy blue looks pretty fab too...
Really, either of these colors would work beautifully with the smaller pops of gold, whites, aquas and even a smidge of orange or coral that shows up from time to time across my living room.

I mentioned a few posts back about wanting a painted piece with a big pop of color, and I think this may be the perfect fit.

I grabbed this Hooker table for just over $100 and was a total steal since I see them online closer to 2 grand!

I fell in love with the legs and the size, and the 2 drawers were just a bonus.

That scalloped detailing across the front I'm not such a fan of, but I love the rest of it so much I don't notice it as much anymore.

Now the next question is do I attempt this myself, or pay for a pro?
I'm pretty handy, but I'd say I also don't know when to admit something is beyond my scope.

This is my next project after I square these cabinets/office situation away.  So we'll see how I feel in a week or so.

I'm down if you have an opinion about it being that bright rich green.
Yes I realized I haven't shown the entire room, but just base it on that piece alone, tell me what you think!

Unless, of course, you think it's a horrible idea.  Then I don't want to know!

OMG I found these most glam frames a couple weeks ago!
They remind me of a gold disco ball.

Pair of them, and they're HUGE!

Now the print isn't really my thing, so I pulled off the paper and there was an 80s print underneath.

Which actually looks like a quality piece, except for the fact someone glued it to the mat for the front print.  Bummer.

I am so so so in love with these frames though!

Now I've got 2 situations.
What to put in them, and where to hang them!

They really are quite glam and sparkly in person.  The only room that I have that many shiny finishes is my bedroom and office.

But maybe once I lacquer up that console table I'll bring them into the living room.

But what to fill them with?!

I don't have much larger "art" on my walls.  And what I do have just sort of fell into place.

I've only once had a frame first and filler secondary.

Matt's mom gave me a gorgeous frame, and I placed a small Hermes scarf inside.  But I just did it sort of half assed to see if I even liked it, and I did, and it's still in the same questionable condition as when I first did it.

My to do list never shrinks.  Only grows and grows.

I've got some really beautiful shots we've taken at the beach, maybe blown up they'd be a good fit.  Perhaps some original art would be the way to go.

I think they're still pretty new to me, I don't want to rush it, maybe something will click in the relative future.

I've got to get back to the disaster area of my workspace, just wanted to check in.

I've still been adding items to the shop, there's quite a bit to look through lately!

Added these amazing brass tiebacks:

And these HUGE brass swan candle holders- I know they're big, but I also know that someone is going to have the perfect place to display them!

And I'm not sure why this beauty hasn't been snatched up yet, if I didn't already have several I'd be keeping this one for myself!

Never, ever enough shiny golden brass!

Ok Autumn, I'm ready!

Isn't it supposed to be AUTUMN?!

Evidently not here in Florida, man I want to start bustin' out the boots and knee socks and scarves and sweaters!

Wait, knee socks?!
Am I too old for these now?

I found some kick ass vintage Frye campus boots on Etsy last year, and I just can't do it until we at least hit the 80s.

Yeah, awesome boots, see ya in December!

I've got a 3 tiered rolling cart I use in the garage to hold, (or hoard - you know same diff) until I can get to polishing them.  Naturally, it's overflowing at the moment.
I keep making these totally bs promises to myself, that I will STOP shopping for the shop until I get some of the items I already have listed.

Am I getting redundant?

(funny - I thought a gif would be so appropriate right here, but I literally just spent 16min watching them via Google search AND I didn't even find one I liked enough!
what a time suck!)

Ok so I've admitted it's total crap.  And I'm just going to keep on buying and stacking and buying and get the idea.

For some reason I've acquired a mass of tables over the past couple of weeks!  I will say my finds tend to have a "theme" and I guess it's table time!
I stumble upon some really amazing furniture finds, but I'm just not ready to start shipping by freight.  Not to mention the storage aspect!  So coffee, side, cocktail and end tables allow me offer some furniture, but totally FedExable!

In no particular order:
2 sets of nesting tables
(let's say 2 sets instead of saying SIX, shall we?)
a pair of plant tables
TWO brass trunks (end tables)
brass tray topped spider table
Oh...and a small marble topped table, whose base has since been polished all shiny and pretty!

these beauties aren't up yet.

this baby has found her "forever home!"

this one has a twin!

this one should be up by the end of the week!
I shined up the base and it's made a bid difference.

How's about this freakin' awesome mail holder!

Fairly certain I'm keeping this golden domed cage of fabulousness!
Besides, it's totally keeping me organized right now!  (snicker)

Do you rip out pages of magazines for something you want or simply want to refer to later?
I do this compulsively, but they tend to just end up everywhere.

It's not like I don't have a proper place or method to store them,
I just don't.

Oh, and don't think because I tear out the pages I like that I toss the magazines either.
Because I don't.

I ripped this one out because of that gold lacquered teardrop thing.

Because I have one just like it in a vibrant orange!
Still don't know what it is, but I love it!
I'm guessing it was used to hold tea.
If you know for certain, tell me!

ummm... HELLO gold glittery mascara?
yes please!

hard candy lash tinsel glitter mascara in gold digger
Holy Crap, did I name that stuff? That's a whole lotta words!

How great would a thin, blush leather bralette be layered underneath
EVERYTHING sheer you own?

fleur de mal bra via Marie Claire 9/13

I immediately sent a photo of that bralette to the bff and asked her if she could/would make one for me.  We both sew, but she SEWS.  Yannowhatimean?

I know...clearly this is in this pretty magazine so you can BUY it! Not have your homegirl make it for you!
Puhleese! I can assure you that they do NOT have a size that will fit me just right so it can looks like I imagine it will in my head!
Although I don't know that is simply a total sizing issue actually.

Well whatevs,
she never answered, so I guess I'll have to try to find it to wrangle it on and see what happens!

I cannot ever get enough of these little brass boxes!
Over in Etsyland they're called "Cricket Boxes"
But when you research that term, the history explains they were made of porcelain.
No where, except Etsy, did I find them described as made of brass.

So when I first listed these I totally refused to call them that.
Someone sent me a message to point out that they are "Cricket Boxes"
And I totally misread her email, as though she was ASKING me.
Evidently she was TELLING me.

So you can find my brass Cricket Boxes sprinkled throughout the shop!

I have several on a bookcase, but they're much larger than these and I can hide  way more junk in them!
These are sweet though, once I shine them up a bit they'll be up too!

How gorgeous are these vintage demi johns?!
I need to find a better way to display them all together.
I've seen them done beautifully in various blogs, but they take up a good deal of space, so you really have to have the right setting.  Or at least the space allowance.

The smaller ones will be listed soon, but the biggie is all MINE!

Then there are these!

2 three feet tall brass candle holders!

They are going to be so fantastic...
once I get through what looks to be about 765 years of tarnish!

I may wait until it cools off a bit more before starting on these two!
I see many hours ahead of me on those!

Will be soooo worth it when they're back to being all gold and shiny and amazing!
At least they're not as tall as these were!

I'm still getting some Christmas and holiday items ready to list.
I was so pleased with myself that I've been amassing them to be ready for the season, and I need to get them up before I miss it!

Just wanted to check in!
Can someone will Autumn to happen now please?!

Summer time and the living is busy!

Miss me?
This has been one busy summer!  We've been super fortunate to have had several dear friends from AZ come out this summer so we could visit!
Just seems we've been just hustling and running the whole summer thus far!
I guess I still have in my mind it should be one giant summer break!
Every day at the beach please!

I was very happy to open my August issue of Real Simple magazine to see this beauty...

photo from August 2013 Real Simple Magazine

Since I just picked up this:

It's just so very awesome!  It's pretty solid, but the paint is pretty scuffed and chippy.  My daughter is a bit ticked, since she's been asking for one of these for YEARS.  And she's not getting this one either.  Before you deem me a mean-old-mommy, we're in a rental, and I'm not about to wreck her ceilings trying to find a secure place to hang this baby.

My intent is to have it land in the shop, but my concerns are A. The current paint status - like should I give her a clean fresh coat?  Or leave as is and let someone choose the color and finish themselves? and B.  Shipping.
Damn oversized shipping.

I know there are tons of sellers that deal in larger items all day long, but since I've never done it, I'm apprehensive to risk sending this in the belly of a Greyhound bus...
That all said, if any of you have used a LTL (less than a load) service and can recommend, please do!

I know I can package it well, as those 2 chinoiserie Elephant garden stools have sold, and they've both made it safe to their new home!  In all fairness it took a good couple hours to pack them up!  Hope she loves them!  I actually miss seeing them!

Let's see, what else has been keeping me busy...
Oh THIS happened!

This is what you get for trying to clean you house people!  I was vacuuming, and I barely touched it to steady it so I could vacuum around it, (cheating) and next thing I know the top half is in my hand and theres pennies rolling everywhere!
I was so pissed!  I kind of collect these glass carboys.  When I say kinda I mean I have 2 huge demi-johns and 3 vintage glass carboys, and I can never say no to one under $50!
This particular one was super clean, I mean SUPER clean, and had a lovely aqua tint to it.
So I googled the markings and turns out this PARTICULAR brand of current carboys has a real problem with this occurring!
Many pix, and they have all broken the same way!
It's CRISA, made in Mexico.  Now I have some vintage Crisa glass votives, and they seem pretty hardy, so perhaps it's just some of there newer things, and maybe just limited to these glass jugs.  Not sure, but I would stay far away from this brand for this type of item!

And since I can't seem to throw anything away, I'm considering using the top half as a terrarium on either front or back porch.  We sanded the edges on the bottom piece and it's now a "dish".

Sigh.  If you do happen upon another brand vintage car boy and it's clean consider yourself lucky and pay what they're asking!
But if you find one that's all hazed up but not cracked nor chipped, this is how I clean them:

First buy some cheap gallon of vinegar.  Dump the entire contents into the jug, next take hot water and fill the difference and just let that baby soak...

If this doesn't do the trick, go buy a large box of Alka Seltzer tablets, any brand, probably want to go store brand here and save some $$.  Fill the jug with water and drop a bunch of those tablets in.  I realize "a bunch" isn't super helpful, but the way I think about it is, if you need 2 for a small glass of water for something denture sized, you're gonna need quite a few more for this sized jug.

Both of those methods, done separately, should really make a big difference in clarity for the bottle.  Just please use care in lifting these jugs while full.  Even though the older ones were made to take some abuse, it is more common for the necks to snap when people naturally grab the neck to lift it.

Found this little ugly, chipped guy the other day...

Bernie the plaster Bison, mounted no less!
But I just had a fleeting thought and figured what's the harm?!

So I brought him home and naturally I already had cans of gold spray paint lying around, I mean what little crafter doesn't?

And Viola!

OMG he's awesome!
So I instantly texted a pic to my bff - you know you do it too!

And she says, I want him!  It's perfect for my friend X blah blah inside joke and all that.

WHAT?  I was going to put him in the shop!   Everyone was going to fall in love with him and think I'm so super talented and creative-like!

Ha, kidding!  well no,  not really kidding at all.

So Bernie the Golden Bison is in route to his new home.  tear.
(he IS really cool tho, right?!)

Since we're smack dab in the middle of summer it shames me to say this, but I've begun adding Christmas and fall holiday items to the shop!

Christmas Tree Votives, Jack O Lantern votives, brass apples, Brass leaves!

I know, I know, I know!  It's too early!
I agree, but guess what?  There's a whole giant group of people that are all organized and prepared and are actually shopping for these things NOW, versus waiting until the last minute when the good stuff has been picked over or shipping becomes pricey due to expedited services required.
Hm, who knew?
I would say I am definitely not one of them, but I do have all these wonderful holiday items on hand, recently polished and ready to go!
Maybe I am getting more organized and prepared after all!
go me!

My little shop has over 300 items in it currently!  I can't believe how it's grown!
And I've got many, many more fabulous items to add as well!
You can't have too much of a good thing... can you?
Besides, options and choices are a great thing!

Oh and I've got HUGE exciting news too coming up!  I've been asked to sell some of my lighting on a hugely popular design website!
I was over the moon, and since it isn't all finalized just yet, I'm apprehensive to share the name just yet.  I will say they have a gorgeous vintage section, with some really amazing, talented vintage sellers on there!  I will be in great company, and I was just flattered they asked!  Hopefully I'll have more details soon!  I'll post here as soon as I finalize the details!

One last thing!
A HUGE thank you to Tiffany for entering my 1 year Etsy Anniversary giveaway!
She is the new owner of a lovely vintage mirrored vanity tray!

My past year has been so exciting, and I'm continuing to have so much fun!

Enjoy your summer!

xoxo, Amy
